Why I make lamps

I’m Simon, a designer from the Netherlands.

sisimono started when I wanted a big floor lamp I could print myself. Everything I found online was either small, flimsy, or looked too much like a 3D print. So I designed my own, in my apartment in Amsterdam, on a regular desktop printer.

That became VUVU: a lamp made of parts that each fit on a small print bed, stacked around a light column, ending up almost a metre tall. VUVU Mini came after, for even smaller printers.

I don’t sell lamps, I sell the files. You print it in whatever colour and material you like, and it’s yours. People all over the world have printed one by now, and seeing their versions come in is still my favourite part of this.

I’m working on the next designs from my studio in Sydney.
